First, Maya was only 18 years old...she made enough movies where the notoriety will continue to follow her for the rest of her life and compel her to, no doubt, be ready to explain this period of her life to any non-adult industry employers or associates. But another aspect to her story I found in the details of Luke's report, her contracting Gonorrhea and her bout of exhaustion brought on by her lack of eating to lose weight, bring to light the PHYSICAL toll that porn INEVITABLY wreaks upon its female performers...particularly the STDs (other than HIV). This probably had MORE to do with Maya's decision to leave than the positive aspectas mentioned in the previous paragraph.
We have heard it said by many people, and we have a lot of anecdotal evidence, that if you are going to perform in Porn, you are going to contract things like genital warts, herpes and diseases like Chlamydia and Gonorrhea...GUARANTEED. This is disturbing, simply because the FANTASY element that Porn is supposed to provide, is partially destroyed when details like this are given their proper consideration. The fact is this...your average person, no matter how good looking or healthy they are in real life, cannot go out and have sex 3-4 times a week with different partners each time, engage in the most unprotected and intimate types of physical sex, week after week, and NOT expect to contract some type(s) of STDs....
I find it quite interesting to delve into the mindset of typical young female porn performers, that they are willing to accept the fact that they will contract these STDs, in exchange for the fleeting rewards of porn pseudo-fame/recognition, to go with perhaps $20,000 a month in income for a period of a year or two...how does one rationalize such cost? Or is it even thought about/considered? I guess, as a single independent male, I can liken it to this type of situation/choice: I am offered the chance to bone the epitome of female sexuality, Marilyn Monroe, for a period of one month, as much as I want and in any manner I want....BUT, I am told that at the end of that month I will have several non-lethal STDs...do I still do it? And if so, do I simply SHUT out the negative results/costs and focus on the short term pleasure, or do I actually weigh it out and consciously say "Having herpes/warts for the rest of my life, along with having my dick drip with an unpleasant case of Gonorrhea for a while, is WORTH being able to fuck some one who looks like Marilyn Monroe...?"
Porn is TRULY a thought provoking arena.... ~~~

Jenna Jameson has completed shooting a 16-page photo layout for Esquire Magazine, which is expected to appear in the May issue and was shot by one of Jenna’s favorite photographers, Naomi Kaltman.
The Esquire layout is the most recent mainstream achievement for Jenna and it comes on the heels of a spectacular month in Internet activity. Always one of the most searched-for celebrities on the Internet, Jenna has overtaken Britney Spears and leaped far ahead of other popular female stars in calculations by web search tabulator Overture.
There were 1,859,429 individual searches for the name Jenna Jameson in the month of February, compared with 1,529,227 for Britney Spears, according to Overture (http://inventory.overture.com). Jessica Simpson attracted 1,162,455 queries in February, Beyoncé Knowles had 1,097,843, Pamela Anderson had 755,904 and Shakira registered 644,901, according to Overture. Among adult actresses, Tera Patrick received 179,982 and Briana Banks received 185,751, the service said.
