CL-OUCH! I saw a movie when I was a little kid (what were my parents thinking?), called A Man Called Horse where they put metal hooks through his chest muscles and pulled him up in the air and let him swing there as part of the initiation to make him part of the Indian Tribe. Everytime I hear about suspention acts it reminds me of this movie that has to be thirty years old.
Zane, on Navarro's "Spread Entertainment" (www.maniatv.com/tv/SpreadEntertainmentTV) to promote his two newest movies, Tattooed & Tight and Radium, will be joined by Tera Wray, who starred in Tattooed & Tight and hosted the heavy metal/sex rockumentary, Radium. Both movies are available exclusively through Evolution Distribution.
Webcast from The Dragonflly (6510 Santa Monica Blvd.) in Hollywood, Navarro will interview Zane in front of the same live audience of patrons, guests and press who will get to witness Zane's suspension upclose and graphic. "People will actually get to see the piercings in a very intimate setting," said Zane. "The Dragonfly is a very small club."
Larissa Friend, a spokesperson for the show, said normally Navarro uses only one of the club's two rooms for his show, but that for this event they'll use the second room strictly for the suspension. Admission is free, and Zane is encouraging everyone to come down and see the show.
"The last time people saw me do this was before a jumbo-tron and 40,000 people," said Zane referring to his performance at the heavy metal 2005 Download Festival in Donington, England. There, as lead singer for his band, Society 1, Zane was suspended 30 feet in the air and swung out over the crowd during a 40-minute set that was nominated for best live performance. A music video from that set is included on Radium, and marks the first time any of the performance appears on DVD.
Zane met Navarro at the Rainbow Room in Hollywood following the Tattooed & Tight release event earlier that night at Hustler Hollywood. He said Navarro was turned on to Tera and the movie by Luci Suicide, a friend of both Navarro and Zane who whas actually tattooed on screen in Tattooed & Tight. Zane said Navarro came over to the table, sat down, and started talking to Tera and Tommy Gunn (who attended the signing event) about the movie and having sex while getting tattooed. During the conversation, Zane said Navarro mentioned that Tabitha Stevens was scheduled to be a guest on his show. Zane told Navarro that he had suspended Stevens in his first music video, and said "we ended up talking over the course of the evening and (Navarro) said, 'I'd like to have you on my show.' The next morning I got a call."
Zane said the suspension demonstration will include the piercing, rigging, and some swinging. Then, he said, he'll pick up Tera from behind and lift her for some additional tandem swinging. Constructs of Ritual Evolution (CoRE), the same group that conducted the England suspension, will suspend Zane again this time, he said, adding "Those guys are world renowned and respected." He said CoRE has also done piercings and suspensions with "mind freak" illusionist Chris Angel
