HYPOCRITE WATCH: Palin’s high school principal: Sex ed not abstinence-only, “I believe”
Uh Oh! My HypoRadar is going Off!!!!!!
With the news breaking over 17-year-old Bristol Palin’s pregnancy, politicos, pundits, and strategists are grappling with how to spin, unspin, and in general how to react to the situation.
I’ll leave that to other posts, but the whole situation made me wonder about Bristol’s mom, presumptive GOP VP nominee Sarah Palin’s position on sex education.
In a 2006 gubernatorial questionnaire, Sarah Palin said she would not support explicit sex-ed programs.
3. Will you support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education instead of for explicit sex-education programs, school-based clinics, and the distribution of contraceptives in schools?
SP: Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support.

It seems to me that the attacks on Palin have been a lot more vicious than the attacks on any of the other candidates in this election.
Presumably Bristol Palin went to a state school and had whatever sex education that they provided there. It is disturbing that the left are trying to turn a teenage girl’s pregnancy into the biggest issue of this campaign.”

Maybe had Bristol had a little “Explicit Sex-Ed Learning” She wouldn’t have had to stay out of school for an extended mono illness! (Ahem)
I’ve got news for you “Moma Palin” kids today, even those from families with the finest religious upbringing, have all the “Explicit Sex Education” they can handle, they just get it on the street, from their friends, the internet, tv, etc…… just NOT from you and some girls, even of this fine background WILL either for “Love” or “Hormones” have sex against better judgment or dogma. Since you are such an uptight, right-wing-ish, cover the children’s eyes and ears kinda gal, wouldn’t it have been better if your daughter and those of others like you, learned about protection in school, from professionals! OH! I know you wanted her to live by your “Abstinence Only” screed er,… creed, well, yes….. that WOULD HAVE been nice, but as DR. Phil says, “How’s that working for ya?”
In this case certainly, it would have been better that she received proper level-headed information and a condom.
As far as the attacks on Palin… They are absolutely WARRANTED! It is bad enough that for whatever reason John McCain chose this “Hockey Mom” to be one sick, old heartbeat away for being OUR president, (Highly questionable judgement call) that he didn’t ask “Any skeletons in your closet I should know about?” (Highly questionable judgement call) And that the Matriarch of this family obviously can’t run her FAMILY (I won’t even bring up the other scandals coming out) doesn’t bode well for our country should McCain meet an early, at least in relation to his four year term, demise!
I for one am sick to death of this country being run by WRONG DECISION MAKERS!!! How about someone in there that actually has a brain of THEIR OWN and doesn’t run the country according to either RELIGIOUS DOGMA or a HANDLER/PUPPETMASTER/LOBBYIST! I as an American was fearful enough of John McCain becoming our President BEFORE! Now, I am Scared S•••less! And yes! Right now this IS the biggest issue of the campaign as it is, for MANY REASONS HIGHLY SYMPTOMATIC!!!!! And David, the fact that you and about 50% of our fellow Americans can’t seem to see this explains my current state!
Trust me, if John McCain and Sarah Palin comprise the leadership of our next administration, it will take more than god blessing America for us not to slip into some very hard times and we may NEVER repair the damage done this country caused by eight years of our ….. “YOUR” previous administration.

Also, I wondered what kind of sex ed curriculum existed at Wasilla High School, the high school that Bristol previously attended (she took a leave of absence for 4-5 months for “prolonged mono” during her junior year and then transferred to a high school in Anchorage), which is also Palin’s alma mater.
When asked what type of sex curriculum existed at Wasilla, Assistant Principal Mark Okeson said the school has a health curriculum that includes a sex education component. When asked whether the curriculum was abstinence-only, Okeson said, “I’m not sure…I don’t believe so. This subject has not come up for a long time. I don’t believe we have an abstinence-only course.”
He said he believe that the school strives for a sex-ed curriculum that is “middle-of-the road,” and added, “I would assume that contraception would be a part of any health curriculum.”
He said he didn’t believe the school was receiving any federal funding for abstinence-only programs.
